At Virtual Materials Group we write our own tools to develop thermodynamic models based on extensive thermodynamic and physical property data provided by NIST’s Thermodynamic Research Center (TRC). We noticed that many or our customers could benefit from having access to some of our tools in order to more efficiently develop specialized models or validate the performance of VMGThermo under conditions of interest when studying plant models.
This need motivated us to develop Thermo Explorer, a unique tool that combines data, mathematics and thermodynamics in a truly unique and powerful fashion. Thermo Explorer comes with a comprehensive database containing more than half a million data points covering vapour-liquid and liquid-liquid equilibrium.
Thermo Explorer can be used to check the performance of VMG’s thermodynamics models against actual lab data, allowing you to quickly gauge the accuracy of a model under conditions of interest and develop appropriate error estimates for sound process design or even to assist you on when – and where – resources should be spent in measuring new data for mission critical parts of a new process.
Thermo Explorer can also be used to determine new interaction parameters for VMG’s thermodynamic models. We develop property packages balancing generality and accuracy and in most cases further adjustments are not necessary. In the cases where a custom model is required Thermo Explorer gives you access to the most important model parameters. That combined with the extensive experimental data already built in and the ability of you entering your own data allows for the development of custom models quickly, effectively and reliably.
Thermo Explorer is also a navigational tool to enhance your understanding of the thermodynamic space. Develop a deeper understanding of errors associated with the use of your thermodynamic model under similar conditions to plant operations, plot thermodynamic variables using an incredibly rich set of specifications.
